The World's most Innovative Running Track

The lunar footprint is the most iconic footprint of all time - we wanted to leave an equally iconic footprint in Manila to launch the new Lunar Epic Flyknit.

We created the world's first full-sized LED-lined running track in the shape of the new Nike LunarEpic.

It brings to life the saying that an athlete's greatest competition is always themselves by letting you run against an anthropomorphic avatar made of your own running data. It tracks your progress, providing lap-by-lap feedback, and can be programmed to training modes built on the eight fundamental routines of running.

The Business Problem

Nike had just released a new shoe during the Olympics in 2016 - we had to cut through the noise of all the other sponsors advertising and announce the launch of a new shoe despite not being an official Olympic sponsor.

The Zag

Instead of making an ad, we decided to create an experience for runners to try the shoes themselves.

The Solution

Slap bang in the centre of Manila, we built the world’s first full-size LED running track. Taking over an entire city block, the 200-metre Unlimited Stadium was designed in the same shape as Nike’s LunarEpic running shoe footprint.

After setting an initial lap time — with sensors attached to the athlete’s shoe — runners could then compete with an avatar of themselves running alongside them at the pace of their first lap. Beat your avatar and it would run your new best time. Because an athlete’s greatest competition is always themselves.
